Responsibilities
- Perform modular subsystem decomposition and component-based software design.
- Perform object-oriented analysis and design using software engineering practices and current modeling tools such as UML.
- Implement stand-alone, distributed, and enterprise software applications in Java using commercial and open source application frameworks.
- Develop test cases and perform unit testing on Java software components and integration testing on Java applications.
- Draft technical documentation for developed components and applications.
- Help develop and refine standards for software lifecycle management, including design, development, documentation and issue tracking.
Requirements
- BS in Computer Science (or similar) and 4-6 years work experience.
- Object-oriented design and programming skills.
- 5+ years work experience with Java programming language.
- Experience with JavaScript.
- Experience with GWT, or Swing and AJAX.
- Experience with SQL and data access using relational DBMS.
- Experience with Java application frameworks, JDBC and Java Servlets.
- Experience with Java Web Services/XML is highly desired.
- Experience with JBoss, Tomcat, Apache.
- Strong communication skills; technical writing experience a plus.
Additional Helpful Requirements
- Experience using the Eclipse Rich Client Platform (RCP) to build graphical user interfaces.
- Experience modeling an application’s persistent relational data and using SQL to access an RDBMS via JDBC.

We are looking to expand our technical staff with an Interaction Designer who will design software application user interfaces (UIs) and web portlets for use in advanced systems that support Joint EOD operations worldwide.
Responsibilities
- Study the EOD domain to develop an understanding of the tasks, methods, tools, and context of the EOD technician.
- Perform task analysis and document concepts using best practices from graphic and information design.
- Conceptualize, design, and prototype software user interfaces for use on a range of devices and platforms from web portals running in Internet Explorer on desktop computers to thick-client Eclipse applications running on touchscreen laptops.
- Develop and maintain standard user interface metaphors, iconography, and interaction guidelines that promote consistency, uniformity, and a high level of usability across all applications.
- Translate operational capability requirements into application designs (static and dynamic) that provide the operational capabilities in the most effective and suitable manner.
- Create appropriate design artifacts (scenarios, storyboards, mock-ups, etc.) that permit evaluation of the above prior to software implementation.
- Create UI static and behavioral design specifications, maintain requirements traceability, and record rationale for decisions.
- Work with technical staff to ensure that designs can be implemented and to ensure integrity during implementation.
- Collaborate in the development of test cases and training materials.
- Participate in user testing and field trials to further understand operational constraints on end users.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in design, HCI or a similar field, or 3 years of practical experience.
- Visual design skills: use of color, typography, graphics production, etc.
- Interaction design skills: screen design, screen flow, behavioral descriptions, etc.
- Experience with standard design software (e.g. Adobe suite).
- Working knowledge of Java and JavaScript.
- Web design skills: HTML, CSS, etc.
- Experience with the Windows operating system.
- Excellent communication skills – visual, written, and verbal.
- United States citizenship, due to government requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Current DoD SECRET or higher security clearance.
- General understanding of XML and XSLT.
- Experience designing for the Eclipse Rich Client Platform (RCP).

We are looking to expand our technical staff with a Graphics Specialists who will provide publishing support for collecting, analyzing, developing and disseminating EOD technical information to the Joint EOD community.
Responsibilities
- Capture, process and catalog images of EOD tools and equipment, ordnance, and improvised explosive devices for the production, development, and delivery of instructional, promotional, and historical publications.
- Analyze technical library holdings, images in various databases and file systems and other information source documents.
- Interface with NAVEODTECHDIV technical personnel to perform research, obtain necessary resource information and ensure connectivity and coordination of the data population effort.
- Enter relevant information into various databases and produce required publications/products in accordance with established development standards, policies and procedures utilizing automated workflow systems.
- Review, correct and record discrepancies on visual information contained within publications or products.
- Work with Government representatives to prioritize and communicate workload requirements.
- Attend, support or brief Government-sponsored meetings to discuss project progress, issues and resolutions.
- Recommend improvements to processes to streamline efforts for efficiency and speed.
- Provide and support continuous quality assurance on publications, products and information.
- Perform all production work exclusively on government-furnished equipment on-site at NAVEODTECHDIV.
- Properly handle and mark classified information using applicable DoD and US Navy information security practices.
Requirements
- Associate of Arts degree with emphasis in design or related field and 2+ years of experience (a Bachelors degree may substitute for experience requirement).
- Supervisory position requires team leadership experience and a minimum of four years of related experience.
- Experience with standard design software (e.g. Adobe Creative Suite).
- Experience with the Windows operating system.
- Must be able to work collaboratively with other team members and utilize effective interpersonal communication.
- United States citizenship, due to government requirements.
Additional Helpful Requirements
- Active DoD security clearance (Secret level or higher).
- Experience with media publications, web design, graphic imaging, and commercial printing.
